A Thayer Coggin Event | CEU
Edison, NJ — September 17th
Stamford, CT — September 18th
The Evolution of Modernism was presented by Thayer Coggin’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Phil Morris. This presentation walked us through 130 years of modern architecture and design. Highlighting how it was influenced. Discussion of its Hallmarks, motifs and defining materials. We explored the American Masters of the Modern Movement and discovered why this period is still inspiring designers today.
What is the difference between modern and contemporary?
“Contemporary includes that which is stylish; modern is a set of principles. We are on the verge of a return to modern, perhaps in three years. Right now it has two directions: one is deliberately nostalgic and emotional. The other is for a different mentality; it is more glamorous, but both are romantic.”
Milo Baughman
Ray and Charles Eames
The incredible duo and the philosophy behind their great design.
In the experimentation process of the development of molded plywood, Charles and Ray made a device they called the “Kazam! Machine” that pressed sheets of wood veneer against a heated membrane that was inflated by a bicycle pump.
“Imagination, resourcefulness, passion, and determination.”
“The real questions are…
Does it solve a problem?
Is it serviceable?
How is it going to look in ten years?”
